Lucy has been my dog's best friend for 15 years. My dog has cognitive dysfunction and it grieves me that his mind and personality are quickly slipping away. But Lucy has such a strong life force that there will be no slipping away for her. She is steadfast in her love of her people and her home. She has alway had her own opinions (for instance, she has never been shy about taking my friends for her walk and letting them know exactly which route she wants to take on any given day). She has the most distinctive personality of any dog I've know.
I have followed the list for a week now and I so admire everything you all are doing to help your dogs fight this illness. Our fight for Lucy is a little different but it still comes down to giving all of our precious companions the best quality of life for as long as they want it.
