[CanineCancer] Re: Brenda and Kirby

Thank you Sue. Kirby needs all the healing wishes everyone can send him!! He is home now and doing really well. I was amazed to see how great he looked when I picked him up yesterday. He came trotting out from the back of my vet's clinic with a big smile on his face. They said he'd done great all day, had eaten a ton of food, his temperature was normal and his attitude was great. And considering he only has a partial right lung my vet said he has really good lung sounds on that side. His cough is pretty much all gone. Every so often he'll give a bit of a cough but it's not much of anything. He ate a good breakfast for me this morning and is resting now. He was very bright eyed earlier. On the weekend mornings I started this thing years ago. I make myself a piece of toast with peanut butter and I also make one for the dogs. I divide it up into 6 pieces and they all think it's the greatest thing on earth. This morning Kirby was right there with everyone waiting for his little morsel of toast. I didn't want to upset his tummy so I gave him just a tiny piece and licked most of the peanut butter off but he gobbled it up anyway. Later the dogs were having their Saturday morning chew treats and Kirby really looked like he wanted one but I didn't think he really should have one. One of my bigger dogs had chewed a tiny piece off of his pig ear so I handed it to Kirby. He nearly took my finger off grabbing for it. He's definitely feeling much better but he obviously tires very easily and his body is still healing from a very long (2.5 hours) and very invasive surgery. But he seems to be on the right track now. We are hoping that the next week will bring our happy, goofy boy back and he can start enjoying life again. His favorite toy is a basketball that has seen better days but our goal is to see Kirby playing with his basketball again. Keep your fingers crossed for our little fighter!!

Brenda
