While I don't have any experience with gastric cancer, I just wanted to wish you the best of luck in whatever choice you make for Max.  My vet oncologist told me that it was ok for Zoe to go 3 days without eating but water was a must.  Is Max drinking water?  How long has it been since he has eaten?  Not sure how to approach this but I'm certain many here in this group have gone through the same and will advise what has worked for them.
