[CanineCancer] choosing an oncologist - university or specialty hospital?

Without going over everything again, it's been less than a week since I got a cancer Dx and Meeve had surgery to remove two sarcomas by my primary vet. I have two options for an oncologist: a local specialty hospital that only does the specialty services and leaves much care to the primary vet, or Purdue U teaching hospital. I didn't/don't know anything really about teaching hospitals.

I was thinking Purdue would be better, even though it's 1.5 hrs away, because they're obviously the most up to date. But reading the FAQ at the site concerns me quite a bit and I would love to hear from others who have has their pets treated at a teaching hospital.

My concerns:
-we get seen by a student who will work in tandem with a "clinician" - is that a professor?

-appointments typically take 2hrs - all day

-"For proper diagnosis and treatment, most animals will need to be hospitalized at least 2-3 days." - ?! Meeve has never been boarded, she's 9.5, she's never been left with unfamiliar people in her life and this would be very stressful for her

Both Purdue and the one oncologist here in Indy operate under referral only.

Opinions/comparison greatly appreciated!
