Re: [CanineCancer] choosing an oncologist - university or specialty hospital?

I would check them both out and see who you feel is best qualified. The specialty hospital should have an oncologist who is a board certified oncologist and even should be also a board certified internist....even then the onc may not have all the options that are available.....check them all out.....do your research first so you know what options should be available....this way you can have your questions ready and have some idea of what the answers should be. We went to three oncologists before finding the one who had the perfect treatment for Olivia which was Photodynamic Therapy (PDT). Our vet is both board certified onc and board certified internist and also teaches at OSU and lectures. The more involved the onc is the better for you.
