Re: [CanineCancer] choosing an oncologist - university or specialty hospital?

Erin,

We live in Columbus,Ohio and Cagney has been treated at OSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital. I can only speak from our experiences but we have been very happy with all of her care. Here are the positives we've experienced...
All cases are under the tight control of a Professor/Vet. Every appt, there is a fourth year senior student (about to graduate and become practicing vets) who meets with you and your pet, keeps in close touch with you and works the visit from start to finish. Cagney is seen by the Prof/faculty member/vet everytime. Because they are a teaching hospital there are Onc/surgeons/vets/faculty and students on site 24 x 7 so the furbabies get extra special attention. These are clearly people dedicated to animal care. We were able to get cutting edge care and clinical trials that were not open otherwise. Our experience has been very positive...I hope that yours is the same.
Maybe in the end,its best to go with your gut instincts.
Please feel free to email me with any questions you might have. I know how scary this journey is for each of us.

Mary and Cagney (8 year old Golden Retriever MCT3 dx 09/09 clinical remission 02/10) and Angel Lacey 11/08
