I just got off the phone with WSU. They want to double up on Lucy's treatments so that she's back on track. This means one treatment in the morning. Followed by a second one six hours later.
As it is, I drive 3 hours every day to take Lucy down there and then back home so she can sleep in her own bed at night. I do not want to board Lucy. She spent two months in boarding at a vet's being treated for heart worms and waiting for a foster home to open up.
My emotional responses are all about the boarding. I don't want to do it... I also don't see how I have a choice. While all of this is going on, my family is also going through some tough times on an emotional level. I cannot ask them to live without me for a week while these treatments are doubled up.
Has anyone had their oncologist recommend doubling up on radiation treatments? Lucy's oncologist is really knowledgeable. I know she wouldn't choose this for Lucy if she didn't know what she was doing... but the thing is... *I* don't know what she's doing and I would like to know more about it. I know that radiation is an aggressive treatment. I know that we are doing this aggressive treatment because it's the best chance we've got at giving Lucy more than a death sentence... I'm not second guessing my choice to do radiation at all. I just want to make sure that this doubling up thing... isn't a million times riskier than what we're already doing.
I could really use some thoughts on this one.
Thank you!
