I'm so sorry that things are not clear with Grey. I have some experience doing ultrasound and usually if it's a tumor it will have a particular appearance and will look much different then something that is benign. The gallbladder on ultrasound is distinct from the liver so if the person doing the ultrasound knows what they're doing they would never mistake an inflamed gallbladder for a liver mass. The alkaline phosphatase is not specific to the liver but is usually elevated with a bile duct blockage so I'm guessing that the liver mass is blocking Grey's bile ducts, which is not a good situation. You might discuss that further with your vet and see if maybe an exploratory surgery might be the way to go rather then waiting.
Someone on another list that I belong to posted a recipe for something called Satin Balls that are supposed to be really good for dogs that need some extra calories. I can look it up if you're interested.
My thoughts and prayers go out to you and Grey. I hope things turn around soon for him.
Brenda
