Re: [CanineCancer] Hello from a new member

Hi Cynthia - Welcome to the group though I am so sorry you had to find us. Your Boxer is lucky to have such a wonderful family watching over him.

I don't have any experience with MCT but many others on the group will have lots of info for you. I also feed raw, and when my Patrick was diagnosed I consulted with a holistic vet who really helped me to design the best diet and plan of supplements just for him - taking into account his overall health, age,  etc. and the cancer he is fighting. Many holistic vets schedule phone consults which is great if you don't have one in your area who is experienced with cancer (and many are not!).

About veggies - my holistic vet suggested dark, leafy greens and anything in the broccoli family (especially broccoli sprouts which I buy at the health food store). Studies have shown that broccoli is a cancer fighter - and the nutrients in broc sprouts are even more concentrated. She said carrots in small amounts are good too - they are high in lots of good nutrients but also have sugar.

Two of my dogs have been on probiotics for ages. Cooper is an old Golden who has always had digestive issues, and someone suggested I just put him on them for life - they seem to help. My Emmy, who has been battling a spinal injury and probable neuro issue, was on and off antibiotics for a few months and she's been on probiotics for awhile now - my holistic vet said to just keep her on it for now as they won't do any harm. Neither of these pups are facing cancer - not sure that matters though.

Anyway - if you plan on going the holistic route then I would try to consult with a holistic vet who has some experience with MCT. Patrick is on a ton of supplements - some stuff I'd never heard of, lots I was already giving, and a few things that I had heard of that she thought weren't necessary. They are the experts and can fine-tune a plan just for your dog!

I am sending lots of healing prayers your way... please keep us posted!
